Gulu - Northern Uganda
Acaye Paul is a Sports Coach, mentor with specialty in Basketball, football, Volleyball, Sitting Volleyball Wheelchair Basketball and other adaptive sports.
Through UGISA and later Gulu Athletic Sport he helped found Uganda’s first Wheelchair Basketball team, introduced Girls basketball in Gulu and also instrumental in promoting girls football in primary schools in Gulu from 2011.
Paul attended numerous trainings including coach educators trainings qualifying him with skills in administration, Report writing, social work, coaching regular and Disability sport.
Akena Dennis Gengomoi
Akena Dennis Gengomoi then as Captain of Gulu Hawks Basketball Club became the first coach of the only elite wheelchair basketball team club in 2007 Gulu. Akena Dennis Gengomoi won 2008 Uganda’s National Volunteer of the Year Laureate (Volunteer of the Year Award) because of volunteerism services to children and PWDs promoting basketball and wheelchair basketball in Northern Uganda. Akena Dennis Gengomoi also initiated a chat about Uganda’s first wheelchair basketball team established November 2007 in Gulu while on study residence in 2009 Germany.
German wheelchair basketball Federation developed interest in the Uganda project resulted into two successive Trainer of Trainers workshop in Gulu, July 2012 and concluded August 2013 at Lugogo Arena, Kampala.
Dennis help found Uganda Wheelchair Basketball Association (UWBA) to govern the operation of Wheelchair Basketball in Uganda 2012. He was elected its first President in the inaugural 2013 Annual General Assembly that helped formulate the currently four wheelchair basketball district establishments of Gulu, Lira, Kampala and Mubende.
