MADIBIRA PRIMARY SCHOOL BUSIA 2016

The 3rd Annual National Disability Sports Gala was hosted at Madibira Primary school in Busia district September 25-29, 2016.

With no Basketball court in the school, a make-shift provision of a ‘dirt court‘ was designed in a dry spot section of the football field.

Basketball hoops were hoisted and nailed to a pair of poles with a plywood as back board. Wheelchair Basketball had two matches played on the first day of the fixture and one more league match played on the second day in a roundrobin format where the team with maximum takes it all. Gulu wheelchair basketball Club won two matches and earned 4 points to win getting vengeance for their painful 2014 reverse fixture against Kampala Wheelchair Basketball Club in this event.

St Benedict Primary school sports ground Mpigi District September 24-29

 

The National Disability Sports Gala held September 24-29 at St Benedict Primary school sports ground, Mpigi District is a tournament that provides recreational and competitive opportunities for all athletes with physical disabilities.  Athletes from Arua, Kisoro, Kampala, Soroti, Gulu and host Mpigi district traveled to Mpigi to participate in this five-day sports camp. Competitions were made in the following games; wheelchair basketball, goal ball, athletics (100m,200m,400m,800m,1500m and 5000m, 10,000m, Wheel chair racing, long jump, short put, javelin and discus- both ball standing and chair seated throwers), Wheel chair basketball, Sitting volley ball, Boccia, attracting closed to 400 athletes with disabilities. Wheelchair Basketball had two matches played on the first day of the fixture and one more match played on the second day in a roundrobin format where the team with maximum takes it all.

Gulu wheelchair basketball Club won two matches and earned 4 points, Kampala City Council Authority  won one, lost one match earning 3 points, and finally Mpigi wheelchair basketball Team Club lost both matches and settled for 2 points at the bottomof the log. In total there were 3 matches played and 122 baskets scored during the tournament from 13 different players.
