Gulu - Northern Uganda
BlazeSports International, in partnership with the Uganda Paralympic Committee (UPC), are leading a 36-month sport development and health project in Kampala and Gulu called USAID’s Sports for Youth with Disabilities Initiative. The overall project goal is to contribute to the improved physical literacy of children with physical disabilities from 2-18 years, especially girls, living in Kampala and Gulu. Physical literacy is the ability, confidence and desire to be physically active for life. This is a growing movement across the globe linked to better health, prevention of chronic health conditions, and improved lifelong physical activity.
Purpose of Mini-Grants
The purpose of the Mini-Grant Opportunity is to increase the capacity of local community-based organizations, located in Kampala and Gulu, to provide adaptive sport and physical activity programs for children aged 5-18 years with physical disabilities, and to improve their physical literacy. Physical literacy is the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life.
o Adaptive sport and physical activity programs during out-of-school time
o Focus on inclusion of youth aged 5-18 years with a physical disability
o Focus on reaching girls with physical disability
o Include staff/volunteer training in adaptive sports and physical literacy
