INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY, DECEMBER 9

Friday December 9, 2016, a 10,000m and 5,000m Gulu marathon run under the theme: “Reject and Report Corruption-Your Responsibility for Improved Service Delivery” was sponsored by ActionAid. The run attracted school children, youths and 15 men and women with disabilities. Persons with physical disability on wheelchairs braved the 5,000m circuit on the streets of Gulu town starting at the Gulu District Local Government offices and finished at Gulu Taks Center.  Ojok Maxwell topped the race riding a tricycle, followed by Ojara Denis (wheelchair) and Ocira Richard (wheelchair) on the male categories.

Acen Florence won the female race on a tricycle, followed by Acayo Pauline on wheelchair and Alanyo Florence (tricycle) finished third. Top three finalist were presented with a certificate and price award of UShs 200,000/=, 100,000/= and 50,000/= respectively.

 

 

 

 Gulu Women’s Day marathon 2019

 

 Wheelchair Basketball Club participated in the Tuesday March 12, 2019, a Gulu Women’s Day marathon run under the theme: “Empowering Women Through Social Protection” that attracted individuals, staffs, volunteers from Civil Society organization, government, community and Wheelchair persons. 11 Persons with physical disability on wheelchairs braved the 3,000m circuit on the streets of Gulu town starting at the Gulu District Local Government offices and finished at the Gulu District Local Government offices. The Paramount Chief of Acholi His Highness Rwot David Acana II graced the event as chief runner.

 

 

Ocira Richard topped the race riding a Wheelchair Racing Wheelchair, followed by Okwonga Charles (Handcycle) and Ojok Christopher (Push rim) second runner up in the male categories. Acayo Pauline (Push rim) finished first, Acen Florence (Handcycle) first runner up then Lakot Jackie (Wheelchair) second runner up). Top three finalist in the Wheelchair category were presented with a basic price award of UShs 55,000/=, UShs 45,000/= and UShs 40,000/= for both female and male respectively. Only winner and first runner up were awarded price of UShs 50,000/= and UShs 25,000/= for female and male in the elite category.

 

ActionAid sponsored gifts and water for the events. A dozen organizations and individual members generously contributed towards the success of the Marathon by purchasing a running vest at a fee of UShs 15,000/= apiece. Six hundred nineteen thousand shillings UShs 619,000/= realized from the run will be donated to help running of the GBV Shelter run by ActionAid proposed earlier by the organizing committee.
